The sculpture was commissioned by a private client as a birthday gift for her husband. A stained-glass panel was originally intended for the circular opening, but it was ultimately replaced by a thin slice of opal. Set within the lively, hand-chiselled surface of solid oak, it forms a natural stained-glass window. Together, we selected a place in the garden facing south from the terrace, which offers a beautiful view of the sculpture. Backlit by the sun, the opal glows and changes with the intensity of the light.
